The listing already ran. The East Room already ran. The accord already ran. This is Wednesday’s unused Oval.
Associated Press, Thomas Beaumont, Darlene Superville, and Will Weissert, published 4:55 p.m. ET Wednesday, updated 5:23: President Trump announced plans for South Korea to invest roughly $54 billion to export natural gas from Alaska, in an Oval Office event with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, Energy Secretary Chris Wright, and Sen. Dan Sullivan, R-Alaska. Trump, with Sullivan: “He’s got my ear, and he’s had my ear for a long time on Alaska.” “All these energy projects are all mine, and I got ’em done working with Dan Sullivan.” Sullivan: “The sky is the limit when we get this project done.” The White House: an 807-mile pipeline from the North Slope to a southern Alaska LNG terminal. Officials: about three years to build, LNG exports about two years after that — dependent on financing coming through fully. AP: it was not clear how quickly South Korea’s government would approve the project or how much it planned to spend.
Yonhap, Song Sang-ho, Washington, Sept. 30: Trump called the plans “one of the largest energy infrastructure investments in American history.” Lutnick: over $50 billion into Alaska LNG; $120 billion, including a $20 billion “contingency,” for eight nuclear plants in Ohio, Tennessee, South Carolina, and Kentucky; the Texas gas-fired plant over $22 billion. Trump, Yonhap: South Korea “will invest up to $200 billion … to build a 6-gigawatt power generation facility in Texas” and “eight new large-scale nuclear power plants,” plus “at long last, Alaska liquefied natural gas pipeline.” That is his line. Yonhap: Seoul believes only the Texas plant has been finalized, with Alaska and nuclear left for further discussions. AP places the money in the 2025 trade deal that pledged $350 billion in U.S. investments and cut tariffs to 15%. Morning already filed 3:30 listed. We will not reprint the listing as first-day news, and we will not type a closed check this board does not have.
What this means for you
If you needed this morning’s unused slot, it still stands as a listing. If you needed tonight’s unused politics, it is ~$54 billion planned for Alaska LNG, held at 3:30, with Seoul’s caveat on what is finalized. Not $200 billion we invent. Not a signed FID.
Bottom line: 3:30 held. ~$54 billion planned. Not the listing. Not a closed deal.
