DOJ, Monday, Sept. 14: a federal grand jury in Wichita charged Mariana Alexandra Dewey, 24, a Peruvian national and lawful permanent resident, with one count of false claim of citizenship, one count of false claim of United States citizenship in order to vote, one count of fraudulent election conduct, and one count of voting by an alien in a federal election. Prosecutors: in November 2024 she allegedly registered and cast a ballot that included federal offices after falsely certifying she was a U.S. citizen. HSI is investigating. AUSA Larry Fadler. An initial appearance was set the day of the announcement. A charge is not a finding she voted. A green card is not a citizenship certificate, and an indictment is not a trial.
Western District of Louisiana, same wrap: Bridget Johnson, 53, of Cotton Valley, charged with fraudulent voter registration and voting by an alien; Michael Wedderburn, 52, of Jamaica, voting by an alien. Prosecutors: on July 14, 2024, Johnson allegedly submitted a Louisiana registration in Wedderburnโs name, falsely stating he was a U.S. citizen; they allege he then voted on Nov. 5, 2024 in a federal race and in the Cotton Valley mayoral contest. Johnson was a candidate for that mayorโs office, DOJ said. If convicted, Johnson faces a maximum five years; Wedderburn a maximum one year, plus financial penalties. U.S. Attorney Zachary A. Keller.
