Department of Justice, Tuesday: an indictment was unsealed charging former U.S. Postal Service letter carrier Damon Matai Seei, 34, of Payson, Utah, with unlawful secretion, destruction, and delay of mail. A federal grand jury indicted him Sept. 16. He was arrested Tuesday and arraigned at the Orrin G. Hatch U.S. Courthouse. Associated Press / KUER: he entered a not-guilty plea. Next appearance Nov. 30.
Court papers: on June 3, 2026, Seei was entrusted with mail for at least 300 Eagle Mountain residents, including advertisements and hundreds of mail-in ballots for the June 23 primary. As alleged, he threw some of that mail into a dumpster in a church parking lot. Acting Deputy Attorney General Trent McCotter: โAllegedly throwing away hundreds of ballots is a serious federal crime.โ U.S. Attorney Melissa Holyoak: he โthrew away the chance for those citizens to exercise their right to vote.โ AP: Holyoak said Seei indicated no political agenda. Motive is still an investigation. A dump is not a proven why.
