U.S. Attorneyโs Office, Western District of Tennessee, Sept. 21: a Memphis federal grand jury returned two interstate cargo-theft indictments totaling nearly $600,000 in losses to freight carriers and companies in West Tennessee, U.S. Attorney D. Michael Dunavant said.
First indictment: Aubrey Brown, 53, and Kemptrell Daniels, 24, alleged conduct July 2024 through August 2024. Prosecutors say they knowingly received or possessed Arista computer networking switches and other commercial freight valued at more than $5,000 after a theft from an interstate shipment. Brown is further charged with transporting stolen Arista switches from Tennessee to California, Georgia, and Texas. Brown faces three federal counts; Daniels two. Each count, if convicted, carries up to 10 years.
Second indictment: Pierre Smith, 32, four counts, March 2024 through August 2024. Alleged possession of stolen Insignia televisions (California to Georgia), Toyo tires (Georgia to California), Samsung televisions (California to Tennessee), and Sumitomo tires (Georgia to Tennessee), each over $1,000, taken from interstate CSX rail shipments. Same 10-year maximum per count if convicted.
