He put a price on the midterm. It is not law.
President Donald Trump, keynote, first night of the GOP’s midterm convention in Dallas, per Fox News: “If the Republicans win the House of Representatives and the United States Senate, both of them … I will issue a dividend to every adult citizen in the United States of America for $5,000. Very much like a successful company will do a cash distribution to its shareholders.” He named it the “Trump dividend.”
NBC: “Pretend that I am on the ballot. I’m on the ballot.” USA Today timed the address at one hour and 45 minutes. He credited Congress for no tax on tips, overtime, and Social Security, said losing the majority means losing the border, the tax cuts, and “your wealth,” and told the room to elect Ken Paxton. ABC: he defended the Iran war — B-2s, gasoline complaints, “Can Iran have a nuclear weapon? Absolutely not.” Fox’s own polling, cited in the same piece: 65% disapprove of his handling of the economy.
No mechanism. No offset. No bill number. A convention promise on a two-day pep rally, 55 days from Nov. 3. Democrats will call it a bribe. Republicans will call it a shareholder letter. The Treasury does not mail either until Congress votes.
Tonight is night two: JD Vance, then Trump again. We will not invent that speech either.
What this means for you
If you vote in November, $5,000 is the bait, not a direct deposit. If you hold a budget, this is a campaign ad with a comma in it. If you wanted last night’s keynote, this is it.
Bottom line: $5,000 if they keep both chambers. He is not on the ballot. He asked you to pretend.
