The president priced every adult. The vice president started editing.
Mediaite, from Fox News Thursday: Bret Baier told JD Vance critics would say the president is “bribing voters” and “bankrupting the country,” and put a $1.3 trillion tab on a $5,000 check for every adult. Vance: “What the president’s talking about is fundamentally a dividend for American workers.” He said tariff revenue is the pot: stand up to foreign companies and countries, then “you’re going to share in some of the benefit.” Quote: “If you keep us in power… I don’t think it’s a controversial idea.”
That is a narrower metaphor than last night’s “every U.S. adult.” Later write-ups said wealthy households may be excluded. Neither Vance nor the White House set an income line. There is still no statute, no pay date, no IRS form. Reuters already had the full adult tab north of $1 trillion on about 270 million adults. A walk-back on television is not an appropriations bill.
Dallas tonight: Vance then Trump, 9–10 p.m. ET, American Airlines Center. C-SPAN has had Day 2 since 3 p.m. We will not type tonight’s speech. The Medal of Honor Museum stop was the afternoon. Nov. 3 is still 55 days.
What this means for you
If you heard $5,000 at breakfast, you heard a rally. If you heard “workers” on Fox, you heard an edit. If you needed a check, you still need Congress.
Bottom line: Workers, tariffs, if we keep power. Still a microphone. Still not a deposit.
