The Dow closed red. One of the Magnificent Seven did not get the memo.
Yahoo Finance, 4 p.m. ET: Meta Platforms $653.69, up $40.21, +6.55% from Tuesday’s $613.48. Midday we had it +6.04% at $650.54. The last hours added a couple of dollars and kept the green. The Dow still finished 52,380.66, −0.77%. S&P −0.48%. Nasdaq −0.64%.
That is a split tape, not a new bull market. Apple closed $315.34, −0.28%. Nvidia $223.67, −0.91%. Amazon and Alphabet were red on the day. Intel held a smaller green, +1.69% to $106.24, after Tuesday’s jump. Meta was the megacap that paid the oil session with a plus sign.
We are not turning a close into a product launch recap. The print is the news. Volume and the rest of the sleeve can wait for the 10-Q. PPI is 8:30 ET Thursday.
What this means for you
If you hold META, Wednesday was the exception on a $102 oil day. If you hold the index, you still ate the Dow. If you wanted a why, wait for the company, not a caption. Not investment advice.
Bottom line: $653.69. Plus 6.55%. The Dow still lost 405. One name is not the market.
