Thursday’s 33 months already ran. Midday’s 56 months already ran. This is Wednesday’s unused Houston paper.
Click2Houston / KPRC, Katherine Levens, published Oct. 2, 10:30 a.m., updated 1:49 p.m., citing the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas: Emmanuel Olugbaike Finnih, 43, of Richmond, Texas, a former adjunct professor, was sentenced Wednesday by U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen to 78 months in federal prison and three years of supervised release. The office said he submitted more than 100 fraudulent student-aid applications over about five years, using stolen identities of “straw students” at colleges across Texas. Applications sought more than $1.3 million in grants and loans. $921,189.08 was actually disbursed. That is the disbursed figure. It is not Thursday’s $1.66 million.
Same KPRC file: Finnih pleaded guilty March 20 to theft of government funds, fraud, unlawful use or transfer of identity documents, and aggravated identity theft. U.S. Attorney Aaron Reitz and Education Department Inspector General Acting Special Agent in Charge Scott Wingle are quoted. Assistant U.S. Attorney Brad R. Gray prosecuted. Education OIG led, with Lone Star College Police, the Marshals, and Postal Inspection. Finnih was left on bond to surrender to a Bureau of Prisons facility later named. A sentence is a sentence. It is not a conviction we invent — he pleaded. Thursday already filed Abdi Nur Salah, 38, 33 months, Judge Nancy Brasel. Midday already filed Frison, 56 months. Morning already filed Norman, 22 months. We will not reprint those terms as first-day news, and we will not smash $921,189.08 into $1.66 million.
What this means for you
If you needed Thursday’s unused Minnesota term, it still stands as 33 months. If you needed this afternoon’s unused crime, it is Finnih, 78 months, $921,189.08 disbursed — not Salah reprinted.
Bottom line: 78 months. $921,189.08 disbursed. Not 33 months. Not $1.66 million.
