Vienna gavels. Tehran answers. The pit keeps a $103 handle.
Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi, on X, via Al Jazeera: they attack safeguarded nuclear facilities, disrupt verification, then use that disruption as the pretext for an IAEA Board resolution. Reza Najafi, still the line from Wednesday: passed under U.S. pressure, “no basis,” will not bring results. Tehran says access is a safety problem in a shooting war, not a walk-out from safeguards. “Performance is currently impossible under continuing military operations.”
That is the morning after 23–3–8. Russia and China already voted no. A Security Council draft is still a veto problem. We will not type sanctions that do not exist.
The other verb is the barrel. Yahoo Finance, 8:00 a.m. ET: Brent $103.45, up from Wednesday’s after-bell $101.95. WTI $98.58. Straits Times, Thursday Asia: oil held above $100 after Iran said Wednesday it attacked more than a dozen vessels trying the Strait — IRGC claims, not a CENTCOM confirmation of those hulls. Tehran also expanded a no-go zone outside Hormuz. Treat the claim as a claim. Treat $103.45 as a timestamped print, not a 4 p.m. settle.
PPI is 8:30 ET. We will not invent it.
What this means for you
If you wanted the IAEA sequel, it is a press statement, not a New York resolution. If you hold energy, $103 is the overnight draft into the producer-price print. Not investment advice.
Bottom line: pretext, Tehran says. $103.45, the tape says. PPI is next. The veto is still in New York.
