Seven ships was the count. The pipe is the new switch.
Associated Press / CNA, Sept. 12: Saudi Arabia said it shut the East-West crude pipeline after a drone attack the day before. The Energy Ministry called it “a precautionary measure.” The Foreign Ministry, via the Saudi Press Agency, blamed several drones that came from Iraq and said the kingdom would not respond, to give Baghdad “an opportunity to take the necessary measures.” Iraq’s Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi ordered an investigation into the Maysan province operations command and dismissed its commander after authorities determined the attacks launched from a site there, spokesperson Sabah al-Numan said Saturday.
The line was built in the 1980s so Saudi crude could skip Hormuz. IEA: by early June, Saudi had more than doubled oil exports from the Red Sea port at the pipeline’s end to more than 5 million barrels a day. That was the bypass. A shutdown is not a new Perim seizure — that island already ran Friday morning. UN IOM: more than 46,000 people fled the Yemen fighting this week, the number more than doubling.
Salalah Monday is still a reported ministers’ meeting. Reuters has not verified a text. We will not invent a deal. Brent last $104.61 — Friday’s settle, not a Saturday cash close. The NYSE is closed.
What this means for you
If you needed Hormuz open, the bypass just took a precautionary pause. If you needed Perim, that file already exists. If you needed a truce, wait for text. Not investment advice.
Bottom line: Pipeline off. Drones from Iraq, per Riyadh. Maysan commander out. Monday is not a deal.
