The print landed. The averages did not throw a party.
Yahoo Finance, 1:11 p.m. ET: Dow Jones 52,102.84, down 277.82, −0.53%. S&P 500 7,606.51, down 29.85, −0.39%. Nasdaq Composite 26,164.40, down 88.94, −0.34%. Wednesday’s cash close was Dow 52,380.66. This is Thursday’s live session, not a reprint of 4 p.m.
Brent, 1:01 ET: $106.80, up $5.59, +5.52% from Yahoo’s prior settle of $101.21. WTI $101.37, up $5.32. That is a new handle versus this morning’s $103.45 snapshot. 10-year yield 4.918% at 12:56 ET. Bitcoin about $77,144. Nvidia −2.09% to $218.99. Meta −0.16% to $652.62 — not last night’s close.
CNN, 9:56 a.m. ET update, citing BLS: August PPI for final demand +0.4% from July, +5.4% from a year earlier. July was +0.1% on the month and +4.8% on the year. Goods +1.1%; more than three-fourths of that run-up was energy +4.2%. Core — food and energy off — +0.2% month, +4.6% year. Electronic components +3.4% month, +27.6% year. CME FedWatch: odds of a hike at next week’s meeting 70%, up from 64% after the print. We are not inventing Friday’s CPI.
What this means for you
If you hold an index, $106 oil and a 5.4% wholesale print are the midday tax. If you needed a close, the bell is 4 p.m. ET. If you needed the Fed, wait for CPI Friday and FOMC 15–16. Not investment advice.
Bottom line: Dow 52,103 at 1:11. PPI 5.4%. Brent $106.80. Do not confuse noon with the close.
