Saturday cash is dark. Friday’s 51,655 already ran. Afternoon’s Cygnus release already ran.
NASA, Friday: the agency released its final Request for Proposals inviting industry to submit plans for the next generation of commercial space stations in low Earth orbit. Proposals are due Tuesday, Dec. 8. Contract awards are expected in spring 2027. A request is not an award. Spring 2027 is not a station flying tonight. Administrator Jared Isaacman: NASA is committed to a sustained American presence in low Earth orbit long after the International Space Station retires, and commercial stations may provide research, training, and a path to the Moon and Mars. May is not a pad. The ISS has not retired on this page.
Same NASA file: two Requests for Information went out in March; a draft RFP in July, then an industry day. Isaacman: “We’ve made it clear that NASA will never give up its presence in low Earth orbit.” The economics, he said, have to work. The solicitation asks companies to design, build, test, certify, and operate commercial destinations with end-to-end destination and transportation for human spaceflight. NASA intends firm-fixed-price, multi-award, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contracts, selecting two or more contractors through early development, then a competitive task order for final design, test, evaluation, certification, and services from one or more. That is a buy plan. It is not a winner we name. Afternoon already filed Cygnus XL off Canadarm2 at 12:44 p.m. Friday, deorbit Monday not covered. We will not reprint that release as first-day news, and we will not type a Saturday Dow close.
What this means for you
If you needed this afternoon’s unused NASA, it still stands as Cygnus off the arm. If you needed tonight’s unused paper, it is a Dec. 8 due date and a spring 2027 award window — not a close, not a burn, not a station already built.
Bottom line: Final RFP. Due Dec. 8. Awards expected spring 2027. Not an award. Not Cygnus reprinted. Not a Saturday close.
