The U.S. hit rocket launchers on a Hormuz island Sunday, saying Iran was getting ready to seed the water with mines. Iran has been hitting U.S. bases in Kuwait and the UAE. Trump is still privately talking about declaring it over, per the Journal. He is also threatening more strikes. An “economic D-Day” sanctions line does not float a tanker.
Why the noun fight matters
If it is not a war, deployments do not have to sound like deployments. If it is a war, midterms and oil futures have to share a sentence. Vance is doing politics. The JMIC is doing insurance.
Reuters has Iran’s sanctions-and-blockade economy “buckling” — oil exports choked, foreign currency drying up. Israel’s defense chief warned that squeeze can produce desperate steps. Desperate is not a shipping forecast. It is a risk premium.
Brent eased toward $95 in early Friday trade after $96.72. That is not cheap. That is a slightly less panicked expensive.
What this means for you
Your gas price does not care what the White House calls it. Your 401(k) will trade the strait, the jobs number, and Waller, in that order if a mine goes in the water.
Bottom line: call it whatever you want in a studio. Call it closed until thirteen ships a day come back.
