BBC / Reuters, Tabby Wilson: the spokesman of the Saudi-led coalition, Maj. Gen. Turki al-Maliki, said Tuesday evening Saudi forces intercepted and destroyed a Houthi drone south of Mecca. He called targeting Mecca a “disgraceful act.” The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation said attacks on Mecca and Medina province were an “unacceptable and intolerable transgression.” Midday already had sirens in Mecca and Jeddah, then lifted. Yahya Saree, Houthi military spokesman: “There is no threat whatsoever from Yemen to the holy sites. Our operations target their oil facilities and military bases, and are far removed from the holy places.” The group accused Riyadh of “fabrications and lies.” Saree said the drones and missiles were retaliation for more than 450 Saudi air strikes over the past week, and that Houthis had shot down a Saudi fighter over Marib. The coalition had no immediate comment on the jet. 450 is a Houthi number. A claimed jet is not a wreck we can see.
Al Jazeera: Yemen’s internationally recognised government said Monday it retook some Taiz ground and struck Dhubab and al-Khokha. Al Jazeera could not independently verify those battlefield claims. UN News / WHO: 2,883 casualties since 6 August; seven health facilities hit, damaged, or out of service in 10 days. That is not Tuesday’s OCHA 125,000 displaced. BBC: Energy Secretary Chris Wright predicted East-West pipeline oil could flow within days. A prediction is not a reopen. The U.S. embassy in Saudi Arabia issued a “reconsider travel” advisory.
