Reuters, Kyiv, Sept. 14: President Volodymyr Zelenskiy called on lawmakers Monday to swiftly support the removal of Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko. Quote, on Telegram: “There is only one path for this Prosecutor General: removal from office. That is what I told him.” Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk said parliament had received Zelenskiy’s formal request. Several lawmakers: the vote is Tuesday.
Kravchenko resigned last week after a corruption investigation reached his office. Reuters: he was not charged with a crime and was not named a suspect. Authorities accused a subordinate of leading a fraud ring. Kravchenko said he was on an official trip abroad. Monday he said he had signed a “suspicion notice” against NABU head Semen Kryvonos — alleged forged documents and a fictional adoption. NABU and SAPO called that a systematic attack on independent anti-graft bodies, denied the allegations, and said Kryvonos had not been formally charged.
Kyrylo Budanov, head of Zelenskiy’s office, to Ukrainska Pravda: “None of this is normal, and it does the utmost harm to Ukraine’s image in the world.” Reuters: the feud threatens anti-graft reforms tied to foreign funding and Kyiv’s EU bid. A Tuesday vote is not a trial.
