🏆 Last Team Off the Couch: No. 19 SMU at Florida State, 7:30 ET, ESPN

College football saved one for the picnic.

No. 19 SMU at Florida State, 7:30 p.m. ET, ESPN, Doak Campbell Stadium. The Mustangs are the last of 138 FBS teams to play a snap this season. First visit to Tallahassee. Dave Pasch, Dusty Dvoracek, Taylor McGregor.

Florida State is 1–0. August 29: 34–17 over New Mexico State. Ashton Daniels, in his Seminole debut: 17-of-27, 202 yards, a passing score and a rushing score. Ousmane Kromah: 115 yards. Samuel Singleton Jr.: 164 all-purpose, two scores. Red zone 6-for-6. Mike Norvell is 23–2 when the other team stays under 20.

SMU’s last trip against these Seminoles was September 28, 2024, in Dallas: 42–16, Mustangs. They have gone 14–2 in ACC play across two seasons as members, per the pregame notes. That is the résumé they carry into a prime-time opener. We are not inventing tonight.

Sunday already gave you Washington 24–10, Notre Dame 41–13, Ole Miss 41–38. This is the leftover. Ohio State at Texas is still Saturday, 7:30 ET, ABC. NFL is still Wednesday — Patriots at Seahawks — then Thursday Netflix, 49ers–Rams in Melbourne.

What this means for you

If you wanted a score, wait. If you wanted a game, 7:30, ESPN. If you are on Kauai, watch it after the wind, not instead of the warning.

Bottom line: last FBS opener, first SMU trip to Doak, holiday night in Tallahassee. The clock starts at 7:30. Not before.
