The weekend did not finish the dump. It also did not cancel it.
Bitcoin spent Sunday morning around the $80,000 handle — some prints a few dollars over, some still in the high $79,000s — after Friday’s 162,000 jobs candle knocked it through the number. The week’s high was about $82,200. The Friday low sat near $79,200. Volume is holiday-thin. There is no New York ETF tape until Tuesday.
That is the interesting part. Brent closed Friday at $96.28. Saturday the U.S. hit three Iranian hulls. Earlier in the war, oil spikes helped shove BTC toward the mid-$70,000s. This weekend the coin sat. That is not bravery. That is a thin book and a closed equity pit.
CME FedWatch still has a 25-basis-point hike as the base case for September 15–16 — 58.4% at Friday’s close. PPI is September 10. CPI is September 11. Those are the prints that can re-rate both oil and crypto in the same hour.
What this means for you
If you bought the August squeeze, you are looking at a holiday weekend that refused to die and refused to run. If you trade the open, Tuesday prices tankers before it prices coins. If you needed a reason to wait, wait for CPI.
Bottom line: $80k on a Sunday is a tap. $96 oil is the other room. Neither one is a Tuesday close.
