U.S. Attorney David X. Sullivan, District of Connecticut / FBI New Haven / HUD OIG: Robert Cappelletti, 60, of Middlebury, former executive director of the Meriden and Groton housing authorities, was charged in a nine-count indictment — five counts of wire fraud and four counts of making illegal monetary transactions. A New Haven grand jury returned the indictment on Sept. 22. He was arrested Sept. 24, appeared before Magistrate Judge Robert M. Spector, pleaded not guilty, and was released on a $500,000 bond pending trial. Sullivan: an indictment is not evidence of guilt. Charges are allegations. He is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
