Yahya Al-Hatemi, director of the Yemeni Armed Forces’ media department, said the army’s strategy is to lure the enemy, wear them down, and establish “death traps,” then move to a “decisive operation” aimed at retaking Houthi-controlled areas, including the capital, Sanaa. “The goal is to exhaust the enemy in preparation for the next phase: the decisive battle,” he said. That is his line. A plan is not a city retaken.
Ibrahim Jalal, a researcher, told Arab News the government is trying to disrupt Houthi combat power before it reaches the front — a pre-emptive approach shaped by the fall of Mokha. Officers said government forces set a “kill zone” around Mokha after Sept. 9–10 and have struck concentrations in Taiz, Al-Bayda, and Al-Jawf. Arab News: the Houthi advance has stalled in parts of the south; they have met resistance in Lahj on a mountain overlooking the Bab al-Mandab Strait, and have so far failed to take Taiz province or make significant advances on Marib.
