The Justice Department wanted a Friday tape. It got one in Harrisburg.
Homeland Security Investigations released video of agents arresting Katya Rodriguez, 30, at an apartment. She is in pajamas. She asks what it is for. An agent says โVoting.โ They let her change, then cuff her and walk her to a car.
She is one of three people charged this week in the Middle District of Pennsylvania, each on a felony. A grand jury also charged Thomas Holtzman, 68, and Marisol Guzman, 50, alleging Guzman voted illegally in 2024. Holtzman is a U.S. citizen; prosecutors say he aided her. The department had not posted those charging documents when it put the video out.
The other two states
Mercedes Alexandra Cardoso, a lawful permanent resident from Ecuador living in New Jersey, is charged with a misdemeanor for allegedly voting in person in the June 2024 primary.
Jesus Javier Jurado Garcia, 25, originally from Mexico, is charged with a misdemeanor for allegedly voting as a noncitizen in Wisconsin in 2022.
Attorney General Todd Blanche: only eligible citizens vote, and fraud is a serious crime. FBI Director Kash Patel: election integrity is a top bureau priority.
What five cases are โ and are not
The administration has spent the second term hunting noncitizen registration and has not produced evidence of a large steal. These filings are individual alleged votes in 2022 and 2024, announced as North Carolina starts mailing 2026 ballots.
Democrats are running their own โelection integrityโ operation aimed at disruption, not these five names. Trump has said Republicans should โnationalize the voting.โ That is the politics sitting on top of a Harrisburg hallway.
What this means for you
If you are a citizen, this is not your indictment. If you are a green-card holder, voting in a federal or state election is how you get a federal case. Charges are not convictions. Ask for the PDFs before you treat a video as a verdict.
Bottom line: five cases in three states. A camera in Harrisburg. The midterms are still two months out. A press release is not a national plot.
