The 3:05 listing already ran. The $54 billion plan already ran. This is Thursday’s unused pool cut.
NBC News, Raquel Coronell Uribe, Sept. 30, 11:29 p.m. ET, updated Oct. 1, 8:58 a.m. ET: The White House on Wednesday removed CNN from the press pool set to cover President Trump’s Thursday trip. CNN had been designated to travel Thursday, according to a press rotation document the White House released Sunday. When the daily guidance came out for a scheduled visit to a truck manufacturing facility in Denton, Texas, followed by remarks in Durant, Oklahoma, it did not list CNN as providing pool coverage. The Hill, Dominick Mastrangelo, Wednesday 10:19 p.m. ET: a source familiar with the situation confirmed the administration would prevent CNN from providing its scheduled pool coverage; no pool camera will travel with the president on the Texas–Oklahoma trip. Morning already filed the unused grid: 3:05 p.m. CDT Peterbilt, 6:00 p.m. CDT Choctaw Event Center. We will not reprint that listing as first-day news, and we will not type remarks that have not been given. A pool cut is not the plant tour.
NBC, citing Emily Kuhn, a CNN spokesperson: Kuhn confirmed the network’s removal from planned pool coverage and pointed to counsel. Theodore Boutrous, representing CNN, MS NOW, and Politico, said Thursday that “the White House is persisting in unpredictably and inconsistently implementing the President’s unconstitutional ‘ban on the free press’ by barring CNN from fulfilling its role as a designated television network pooler—to the detriment of CNN, its fellow pool members and, ultimately, the American public.” NBC: U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly’s order last week was limited to media access on the White House grounds. NBC: the White House barred CNN from flying on Air Force One over the weekend when Trump traveled to Tennessee; that unused plane already ran. Other pool members — Fox, ABC, CBS, NBC — did not, on this NBC file, take CNN’s Thursday seat. The White House did not immediately respond. We will not invent Kelly extending the TRO into the airplane, and we will not invent Denton quotes before 4:05 p.m. ET.
What this means for you
If you needed this morning’s unused plant-tour listing, it still stands as a listing. If you needed this afternoon’s unused politics, it is CNN off Thursday’s travel pool, not 3:05 rewritten and not a speech we invent.
Bottom line: CNN off Thursday’s travel pool. Kelly’s TRO is grounds. Not Peterbilt reprinted. Not the remarks.
