Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are back on a plane the Iran war grounded.
TASS said Trumpβs envoys β the real-estate partner and the son-in-law β would be in Moscow on September 5 and 6. Volodymyr Zelenskyy said they will make their first visit to Kyiv on Sunday. President Trump told reporters Friday they are bringing a proposal βto end the war.β He would not say whether it asks Ukraine to cede land. βWe have an idea for peace.β
Their last Moscow trip was January. Talks went quiet after the U.S. and Israel opened the Iran war in March.
The weekend is not a ceasefire
Friday, a Russian drone hit the SBU security-service headquarters in central Kyiv. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said 12 people were hurt, seven of them medical staff, in the Shevchenkivskyi district. Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called it a βmajor escalationβ during a renewed push for peace.
Odesa took a βmassiveβ overnight attack: one dead, at least five hurt, including a child. Two police officers were killed in Dnipro. Ukraine hit Sochi and Sirius with drones.
Zelenskyy said Ukraine would not strike during the envoysβ Moscow stay and asked Russia to do the same when they reach Kyiv. βWeβll see what proposals Steve and Jared have and what Moscow will say.β
Vladimir Putin, at a Far East forum Thursday, had said negotiations were frozen, then: βIs there a chance? In my view, yes.β Aide Yury Ushakov after January still said no long-term deal without the βterritorial issue.β
What this means for you
A peace headline does not move Hormuz by itself. It can move the risk that Washington is fighting two wars with one attention span. Watch whether Sunday in Kyiv happens, and whether the SBU strike was the greeting or the veto.
Bottom line: the envoys are in Moscow. The SBU is in rubble. An βidea for peaceβ that will not discuss land is a press conference, not a map.
