Marvel’s Wolverine is not out. The waiting room just got a date.
PlayStation and Insomniac set the review embargo for Thursday, September 10, at 8 a.m. Pacific. The game launches September 15 on PS5 only. That is five days of scores, streams, and arguments before you can actually snikt.
We already told you the launch trailer dropped at State of Play. Jean Grey, Team X, the two-week clock. This is the next tick on that clock.
Why an early embargo is a tell
Day-before embargoes are how you hide a mess or how you keep spoilers off the homepage. A five-day early window, with codes already in critics’ hands, is how you say: we think this holds up when people finish it.
Insomniac’s last two Spider-Man games trained the audience to expect a high floor. This one is linear, not a full open-world sandbox, so the runtime will be shorter than a swinging tour of New York. Shorter plus extra review time is either confidence or a studio that wants the combat debate over before launch weekend.
PlayStation’s Randall Stevenson said they wanted everyone to have plenty of time with the game. Creators are already posting the embargo like a sports start time. “Expect more then bub,” as one reviewer put it. Fine. Wait for the score, not the caption.
What it is not
It is not on Xbox. It is not on PC day one. It is not Onimusha, which you can play tonight. It is not Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave on September 17 (Switch 2, $70 digital). Different couch, different night.
Sony needs a 2026 hit that is not another live-service apology. Logan is the bet.
What this means for you
If you have a PS5 and a Marvel slot in your brain, block the 10th for reviews and the 15th for the download. If the Metacritic is a 9, the weekend is decided. If it is a 7, you just got five days of cover to wait for a patch.
Bottom line: the claws have a score date. Treat September 10 like a jobs report for games. Then decide.
