The $100 oil handle survived the New York close. The Dow did not get a bounce.
Yahoo Finance, 4 p.m. ET Wednesday: Dow Jones 52,380.66, down 405.41, −0.77% from Tuesday’s 52,786.07. S&P 500 7,636.36, down 37.16, −0.48%. Nasdaq Composite 26,253.34, down 168.07, −0.64%. Midday we had Dow 52,458 at 12:59. The last 3 hours did not save the average. This is the close. Not 12:59. Not 11:35.
Oil stayed the tax. After the equity bell, Yahoo had Brent $101.95 and WTI $96.97 — still live on the futures tape, not a reprint of Tuesday’s $99.33 / $94.25 settle. Energy sleeve XLE +0.83%. 10-year 4.837%.
The split inside the close: Meta +6.55% to $653.69. Intel +1.69% to $106.24. Tesla +3.29%. The drag: Apple −0.28%, Nvidia −0.91%, Microsoft and Alphabet red on the day. Amgen −0.48% to $391.27 after Tuesday’s hole. Bitcoin about $77,941 in the evening, under the $79,000 line we have been living with. Coinbase −1.19%.
PPI Thursday, 8:30 ET. CPI Friday. FOMC Sept. 15–16, Chair Kevin Warsh. Canada’s $20 billion counter-tariffs are one session old. CENTCOM’s five tankers are two.
What this means for you
If you hold an index, Wednesday priced $102 oil twice — at noon and at 4. If you needed the close, it is 52,381. If you needed PPI, set an alarm. Not investment advice.
Bottom line: Dow 52,381. Brent still $102 after the bell. Meta green. Thursday is the producer-price exam.
