Sunday’s unused Lucas indictment already ran. Oct. 12’s unused 16 already ran. This is Monday’s unused charging paper.
Department of Justice, Office of Public Affairs, Monday Oct. 26: charges involving 48 non-citizens in Pennsylvania, California, Florida, New York, and Nevada for illegal voting, fraudulent voter registration, and related election crimes. The release lists voting by aliens in federal elections and false claims of U.S. citizenship to register to vote or to vote. A complaint, indictment, and information merely contain accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. That is the department’s own last line. We will keep it.
Same release, by district: Eastern District of Pennsylvania, four, including Alfredo Santiesteban, 73, charged by information with one count of voting by an alien, alleged 2024 general; Artur Kopacz, 50, two counts, alleged 2022 and 2024. Those four are not Oct. 12’s other EDPA four. Middle District of Pennsylvania, five. Central District of California, 13, felony charges including false statements in a naturalization application. Eastern District of California, six, voting by an alien in a federal election — a misdemeanor the release says carries a statutory maximum of one year. That is a ceiling, not a sentence. Northern District of California, five. Southern District of California, four. Middle District of Florida, six, including three by indictment and three by information. Northern District of New York, one. Eastern District of New York, three, alleged 2024 votes. District of Nevada, one: Jullie Ann Sumalinog Moore, 44, alleged vote in an election held in part for President, Vice President, Senate, and House. 4 + 5 + 13 + 6 + 5 + 4 + 6 + 1 + 3 + 1 = 48. California is 28 of those 48. 48 is this Monday’s count. It is not Oct. 12’s 16. It is not Sept. 18’s other 16. We will not reprint Lucas, the tax surge’s 76 and $490 million, Perea, or Woody. A press release is not a steal. Nov. 3 is still the election.
What this means for you
If you needed Sunday’s unused crime, it still stands as Lucas, eight counts, charges not convictions. If you needed this noon’s unused paper, it is 48 charged, not 48 convicted. If the week is too heavy, 988.
Bottom line: 48 charged. Not convicted. Not Lucas reprinted. Not Oct. 12’s 16 reprinted.
