Midday’s 5–3 already ran. This is Saturday’s unused shutout.
ESPN box, Saturday Oct. 3, Tropicana Field, 6:30 p.m. listed: Tampa Bay Rays 1, New York Yankees 0. Drew Rasmussen: 8.0 innings, 1 hit, 0 earned, 10 strikeouts, 2 walks. Gerrit Cole 0–1. Jonathan Aranda homered to right-center in the third, 417 feet, the only run. MLB.com: Rasmussen carried a no-hitter into the eighth. Attendance 40,542. Series: Rays 1–0. That is Saturday. It is not midday’s Dodgers box.
CBS Sports / MLB.com: ALDS Game 2, Yankees at Rays, is listed Monday, 8 p.m. ET. Sunday’s Dodgers–Braves Game 2 is listed 8 p.m. ET tonight. It has not finished on this board. We will not invent that score. Midday already filed Dodgers 5–3, series 1–0. Thursday already filed the unused 8:15 listing. We will not reprint 5–3 as first-day news.
What this means for you
If you needed this afternoon’s unused 5–3, it still stands as Saturday’s NLDS opener. If you needed tonight’s unused baseball, it is Rays 1–0. Tonight’s 8 p.m. Game 2 is not a score we invent.
Bottom line: Rays 1–0. Rasmussen eight innings. Not 5–3 reprinted. 8 p.m. not invented.
