CBS News: for the third time, the House voted Tuesday to block President Trump from further military action against Iran. Tally: 220โ204. Seven Republicans broke with the president: Nancy Mace (S.C.), Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Zach Nunn (Iowa) โ new yeses โ plus Tom Barrett, Brian Fitzpatrick, Warren Davidson, and Thomas Massie. Los Angeles Times: similar to earlier summer efforts; none of the resolutions have reached the presidentโs desk, where Trump would almost certainly veto. A pass is not a withdrawal.
The resolution, from Rep. Seth Moulton, directs the president โto remove United States Armed Forces from hostilities with Iran.โ CBS: a war-powers resolution that cleared the House in July has seen no Senate movement. Both chambers adopted another in June; the White House has argued against its validity. It is unclear whether the Senate will take this one up in its last two scheduled weeks before November. We will not invent a Senate vote.
CBS: Aug. 28 marked six months since the war began Feb. 28. The Pentagon said Operation Epic Fury ended in May; exchanges have continued. A ceasefire intended to end the war fell apart in July. Estimated direct cost about $38 billion from Feb. 28 to Aug. 1; about $2 billion to $3 billion a month if it continues. Those are CBSโs figures, not a CBO score we re-ran. Speaker Johnson canceled Thursdayโs votes, sending the House home until after the midterms. Massie introduced eight impeachment articles against Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Tuesday; canceling Thursday pushes that privileged resolution toward November.
This is not the 262โ159 Graham bill. It is not Level 3. It is not Cairo.
What this means for you
If you needed troops ordered home, you still need the Senate and a signature you do not have. If you needed a veto, it has not been presented. If the war talk sits too heavy, 988.
Bottom line: 220โ204. Seven Republicans. Senate has not moved. Not a withdrawal.
