Associated Press / PBS, Saturday: the White House left CNN off Air Force One for President Donald Trump’s trip to a midday Tennessee–Texas game in Knoxville. CNN, a member of the U.S. network video pool, said it had been scheduled to fly. White House guidance issued Friday night listed Real America’s Voice instead. A written pool report Saturday morning: “no TV pool” for the travel. Real America’s Voice correspondent Taylor Mitchell, on social media: “CNN is not here; we have taken over that responsibility.” The White House did not respond to AP emails about the decision. CNN declined to comment. A seat swap is not a new court order.
U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly temporarily restored hard passes for CNN, MS NOW, and Politico in an overnight ruling Thursday. AP: that order dealt with White House grounds and did not name pool duty or Air Force One. Theodore Boutrous Jr., counsel for the three outlets, said Friday the plaintiffs believe the ruling also covers the pool. We will not invent a Saturday opinion that is not on the docket. Trump, Saturday morning on social media: “FAKE NEWS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED IN THE WHITE HOUSE!!!
