Sunday’s road cut already ran. This is Monday’s unused west-coast claim.
Al Jazeera staff and Reuters, updated Monday: Yemen’s internationally recognised government said it was launching a “strategic” offensive on Sanaa, which the Houthis have held since 2014. Earlier the same day, Saudi-backed forces said they had regained control of the Dhubab district on the west coast near the Bab al-Mandeb strait. The Houthis denied the announcement. Al Jazeera could not independently verify the battlefield claims. A launch on Sanaa is not Sanaa retaken. A Dhubab claim the other side denies is not a pin this desk will treat as settled.
Same Al Jazeera file: the government army said 1,747 Houthi fighters had been “neutralised” in 1,122 military operations in Saada, al-Jawf, and Taiz and along the western coast. Spokesman Brig. Gen. Majed Abdullah al-Nuzaili said the attacks targeted artillery and rocket positions, fortifications, supply lines, reinforcements, and command centres, using warplanes, drones, artillery, missiles, and snipers, and that 364 military and logistical vehicles had been destroyed or disabled. The casualty and equipment figures could not be independently verified. 1,747 is a government count. It is not a UN tally this board has.
Foreign Minister Afrah al-Zouba, on X, asked brothers, friends, and the international community to support Yemeni institutions against the Houthis, saying it is “in the world’s interest” for the country to be stable. An appeal is not a resolution. Sunday’s unused file already had Rashad al-Alimi ordering operations “until the country is liberated” and AFP’s al-Safiya cut on the Taiz–Aden road, with Taiz still government-held. We will not reprint that Sunday speech as first-day news. Midday Sunday’s 257 operations already ran. Do not smash 1,122 into 257.
What this means for you
If you needed last night’s unused international, it still stands as a speech and a road cut. If you needed this morning’s unused sentence, it is Dhubab claimed and denied, a Sanaa offensive launched, 1,747 unverified. If you needed the capital retaken, wait for a pin that is not only the government.
Bottom line: Dhubab claimed. Houthis denied. Sanaa offensive launched, not fallen. 1,747/1,122/364 unverified. Not Sunday’s road cut.
