ABC News / Associated Press, Friday: Windward, a shipping firm, reported a dip in traffic through the Bab el-Mandeb strait from 35 daily transits before the Houthi advance to 25 after, then traffic recovered and climbed to 45 transits on Sunday. Morning’s four commodity vessels vs about 16 was Hormuz. This 45 is Bab el-Mandeb on Sunday. Four is not 45. A Sunday recovery is not Thursday’s Hormuz tape.
U.N. humanitarian office (OCHA): the latest fighting has killed eight civilians and wounded another 32; an estimated 125,000 people have fled their homes. Morning already had IOM 100,000 and a U.N. 125,000. We will not reprint the Dhubab boat as first-day news. Eight killed is not Thursday’s one death in Taif. The health ministry of the Saudi-backed government says the Houthis have killed around 150 civilians since September 3. That is their count. OCHA’s eight and 32 are the latest-fighting line.
Mohammed al-Bukhaiti, Houthi political bureau, to AP: “It is Saudi Arabia that closed the Bab el-Mandeb strait to shipping traffic to and from Yemen and imposed an unjust blockade on the country.” A quote is not a lifted blockade. April Longley Alley, Washington Institute: capturing Mokha and islands lets the Houthis “harass shipping more easily” and “establishes them as the power broker in this critical waterway.” An analyst is not a Council resolution.
AP sources: last weekend Oman hosted a meeting between U.S. and Houthi representatives. The U.S. says it has been in “constant contact” with the Saudis. MbS in Cairo already ran. A weekend talk is not a deal. Turkey and Pakistan, in a new defense pact with Riyadh, said they have not received a Saudi request for support. Heavy fighting in and around Marib, ABC said. The Houthis are about 32 kilometres from Djibouti. F-15 remains a claim. Hanish is still unverified on this board.
