OCHA, in a statement carried Tuesday: hostilities have displaced at least 18,000 households — about 125,000 people — since the start of September. UN News / IOM: 93,864 newly displaced. Those are two counts. Do not mash them into one number. UNHCR: thousands more have crossed the strait to Djibouti. Nearly half of Yemen’s 41 million people need aid, UN News said.
Politico / UN figures: the strait is about 30 km wide and carries about 8.7% of global seaborne trade. Multiple Houthi leaders: shipping through Bab el-Mandeb remains safe except their ban on Saudi vessels. Trump, Saturday: the Houthis are “letting most ships go through.” A quote is not a tanker tally. Hormuz is still the other gate. 8.7% is not a fifth of the world’s oil.
