The year’s best-seller just got a dock.
Nintendo put Meccha Chameleon in today’s Nintendo Direct and said it is out later today on Switch 2. Until this morning it was a Steam story: launched June 9, 2026, built in about two months by the duo lemorion_1224 and Haganeiro. The Steam news hub already claimed 20 million copies by August 12. Polygon and Game Developer both printed that number. Steam peak concurrent was 340,534 in the first two weeks.
Alinea’s Rhys Elliott had it as 2026’s unit leader by early July at 12.6 million, ahead of FC26 9.1 million, Resident Evil Requiem 7.5 million, Forza Horizon 6 7.4 million, Arc Raiders 7.4 million, Slay the Spire 2 7 million. The 20-million update did not dethrone that ranking. It padded it.
The pitch is hide-and-seek with a paintbrush. You coat a white cartoon body to match the room. A hunter tries to spot you and tag you with a paint gun. Steam lists 2–10 players. Beebom says the eShop price is expected to match PC at $5.99. We will not type a firm Nintendo MSRP until the store page is live. Recent Steam reviews sit Very Positive — about 90% of tens of thousands of English reviews.
This is the first console port. Polygon notes PlayStation and Xbox are not announced. Do not buy a fake mobile clone; the PC original already attracted storefront scams when it was Steam-only.
Calendar, not this download: Marvel’s Wolverine reviews Thursday, 8 a.m. PT, launch Sept. 15 on PS5. Different couch. Different price.
What this means for you
If you have a Switch 2 and three friends in the room, this is the impulse buy after the Direct, not a pre-order speech. If you already own it on Steam, the question is whether your living-room people are on Nintendo. If you wanted the $70 slot, wait for Wolverine’s score tomorrow.
Bottom line: 20 million on PC. Switch 2 today. Paint yourself into the couch. The expensive game is still next week.
