The rematch got a score. It was a messy one.
Seattle 13, New England 10, Wednesday night at Lumen Field. Reuters: Josh Jobe intercepted Drake Maye in the end zone with 21 seconds left. The Patriots were inside field-goal range — Andy Borregales had already hit a 50-yarder — and went for the win instead of overtime. Maye had already converted two fourth downs on the last drive, including 11 yards to Mack Hollins on fourth-and-9 after the two-minute warning. The third-and-5 toss was underthrown. Jobe was in front of Hollins a step into the paint.
New England led 10–0. CBS Boston: A.J. Brown drew interference from Jobe on a flea-flicker, then Maye found rookie Eli Raridon from 2 yards. Borregales made it 10. That was the first-half ledger.
Five plays into Seattle’s title defense, Sam Darnold was sacked by Dre’Mont Jones, left with a hip, and did not return. Backup Drew Lock — 16 of 22, 187 yards, one touchdown — had to finish a prime-time opener. Trailing 10–0, Nehemiah Pritchett picked Maye. Lock to Jaxon Smith-Njigba on fourth-and-1, a play-fake, 45 yards, tie game with 11:28 left. Julian Love picked Maye next. Jason Myers, 26-yard field goal, 13–10, under six minutes. Maye’s last three possessions: three interceptions. He finished 23 of 33, 178 yards, one score, three picks. Smith-Njigba: eight catches, 122 yards, the tying TD. Brown left in the third with a right ankle.
Henderson was already out. Larison was the elevation. It did not become 10–0 forever.
Thursday: 49ers at Rams, Melbourne, Netflix, 8:35 ET. We will not invent that score either.
What this means for you
If you needed Kickoff, it is in the books. If you needed Maye to look like a Super Bowl quarterback for four quarters, the fourth was the other movie. If you have Melbourne on the calendar, that is still tonight.
Bottom line: 13–10 Seattle. Three picks. A backup. The league is 1–0 in 2026.
