Two Jupiters already ran. XRISM already ran. 3I/ATLAS already ran as a comet. Six spheres already ran as unresolved. This is unused Monday geology.
NASA / JPL, Sept. 21: when Perseverance reached the inner edge of Jezero Crater in September 2023, scientists expected sedimentary rock along an ancient lake shoreline — the Margin Unit. They found igneous rock instead. The paper, in Communications Earth & Environment Monday: those rocks show water on at least three separate occasions, each altering chemistry and appearance. The team can order the events. It cannot date them. A sequence is not a calendar.
First encounter, NASA said: carbon-dioxide-rich groundwater reacted with olivine, leaving carbonate ridges in fractures at low elevations; softer rock wore away around them. Last: mineral veins about 10 inches (25 centimeters) thick in the eastern Margin Unit, with calcium sulfate and fluorite. Fluorite, NASA said, typically forms when hot water circulates through volcanic rock — a later hydrothermal pulse. Three waters. Not a microbe count. Not a craft.
Orbiters had shown strong carbonate signals. On Earth those often form in shallow water that can support life. The rover found a different rock. Expectation is not a fossil. We will not type life.
What this means for you
If you needed Sunday’s brown dwarfs, that file exists. If you needed Monday’s unused Mars line, it is three waters, igneous, 25 centimeters of vein. If you needed a date or a body, wait.
Bottom line: Three waters. Igneous, not the lake bed they booked. Not a craft. Not two Jupiters.
