Sony ran a State of Play and a State of Play Japan on Thursday. More than 30 games got a trailer. Two dates will actually change your calendar.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation — the third and last game in the Remake trilogy — launches April 8, 2027.
Marvel’s Wolverine launches September 15, 2026, on PlayStation 5. That is twelve days.
Revelation, stripped
Square Enix put the finale on:
- PlayStation 5
- Nintendo Switch 2
- Xbox Series X|S
- PC via Steam, Epic, and Xbox on PC
Day-one multiplatform. Not a year of PlayStation exclusivity with a shrug later. If you waited out Rebirth on a console that was not a PS5, this is the sentence you wanted.
The date sits on the 30th anniversary year of the original Final Fantasy VII (1997). Marketing will not let you forget that. A story expansion pass is planned separately; Square flagged extra story DLC for winter 2027 into spring 2028. Pre-order the trilogy bundle if you like owning the box. Play the game if you like endings.
Wolverine is the near-term one
Insomniac’s Marvel’s Wolverine got a launch trailer. Jean Grey and Team X are in the shot. It is still a PS5 game, not a “every TV in the house” game. If you have been waiting since the 2021 teaser, the wait is now measured in commutes, not years.
The rest of the pile
The double-bill stuffed the rest of the hour with date drops, gameplay dives, and Japan-side announcements. Fine. You do not need 30 recaps. You need the two that survive the weekend.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword is out September 4 if you want a sword game tomorrow. Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is September 17 on Switch 2. Those are real. They are not this headline.
What this means for you
If you are a FF7 person, the argument about platforms is over. The argument about whether part three can stick the landing starts now and lasts 19 months. If you are a PlayStation person, September 15 is Wolverine, then you go back to work.
Bottom line: Square Enix finally put a Wednesday on the finale. Sony put a date on claws. Only one of those is soon enough to clear your weekend.
