Monday’s 16 charged already ran. Sunday’s 48 months already ran. This is Tuesday’s unused week of arrests.
Department of Justice, Office of Public Affairs, Tuesday Oct. 13: a coordinated international “Joint Disruption Week,” hosted by the UK’s National Crime Agency in London, beginning Oct. 6. The department: transnational criminal scam networks operating from West Africa took arrests, seizures, and what it called the largest-ever takedown of fraudulent social media accounts linked to scam centers in the region. 28 arrests of people tied to those operations: 19 in Ghana, in the Accra suburb of Sasaabi, with 303 electronic devices seized; nine in Nigeria, with 53 devices. 28 arrested is not 28 convicted. An arrest is an accusation.
Same release: Ghana authorities identified 117 victims of human trafficking pending repatriation to Nigeria, and 89 scam victims with an approximate loss of $8.3 million. Private-sector partners — Meta, Adobe, Binance, Coinbase, Google, Microsoft, OpenAI, and others named on the page — told the department they “removed more than 3.7 million accounts, Pages and Groups” targeting people in the U.S., UK, and beyond, shared leads on over 30 suspected scam centers, and identified over $11 million in potentially freezeable funds. Identified is not a forfeiture we invent. The disrupted schemes, DOJ said, included law-enforcement impersonation, digital “arrest” extortion, and cryptocurrency investment fraud, also called “pig butchering.” FBI Director Kash Patel: dozens of criminal actors, hundreds of devices, at least $11 million potentially freezeable. Dozens is his word. 28 is the named arrest count. Do not smash them.
FBI IC3, on the same page: investment scams were reported 72,984 times in 2025; cryptocurrency investment fraud was 72 percent of that category. Reported losses rose from $3.96 billion in 2023 to $5.8 billion in 2024; crypto-nexus investment-scam losses rose 24 percent in 2025 to over $7.2 billion. Those are reports, the department says, and they undercount. Monday already filed unused 16 charged in election cases — not convicted, not Sept. 18’s other 16. We will not reprint that docket as first-day news. We will not reprint Beltre, Meadows, Ramirez, Barron, Iley, or Loftis.
What this means for you
If you needed Monday’s unused crime, it still stands as 16 charged, not 16 convicted. If you needed this noon’s unused paper, it is 28 arrested, 3.7 million accounts down, not a conviction sheet. If you think you were scammed, the FBI’s IC3 is the report line. If the week is too heavy, 988.
Bottom line: 28 arrested. Not convicted. 3.7 million accounts. Not Monday’s 16 reprinted.
