NBC 6, Trish Christakis, Monday / WSVN, Sept. 21: Jonathan Christian Gonzalez Reyes, 45, was arrested on a federal warrant in Hialeah on Sunday after ICE surrounded a home. That followed a Wednesday Miami-Dade Sheriffโs arrest on state charges and a Thursday bond. DHS, Monday morning: he now faces federal charges as well. An arrest is not a conviction.
NBC 6, from the arrest report: on July 8, Gonzalez Reyes was seen on surveillance at a Miami Gardens food truck with what appeared to be flashing blue lights, a badge, and a gun. He allegedly claimed a top position with ICE and said he could help the owner with immigration issues. The victim told investigators Gonzalez Reyes later threatened his son โ including a threat to pistol-whip him and plant drugs โ and pointed a gun toward the victim. The indictment, NBC said: the victim told Homeland Security on Sept. 18 that Gonzalez Reyes had visited eight to nine times, put a gun on the table, and asked for free food while presenting as ICE. Gonzalez Reyes, per that filing, denied knowing the victim and denied brandishing the gun, saying he was showing it. Two stories. We will not pick a winner.
State charges named by NBC/WSVN include aggravated assault and impersonating an officer. ICE told NBC 6 the allegation is impersonating a federal official โ not that he was arrested because he is in the country illegally. His immigration status was not provided. He has a public defender. Office of Professional Responsibility investigates alleged misconduct involving federal officials; that is ICEโs line, not a finding that he was one.
Austin โ Garces Perez, 28, shot Sunday, then federal custody โ already ran this morning. Impersonation is not that shooting. Charges are not convictions. If the gun talk sits too heavy, 988.
