The station got the last word.
Ukrzaliznytsia posted around midnight: Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner were on the Peace Express again, leaving Kyiv the same way they arrived. The railway thanked them and said the quiet-weekend wish was that they come back — and that other cities get one too. Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked them in public and said the dialogue continues.
That is the Monday morning fact. Sunday’s three rounds are the file: Ukraine, then Europe in the room — Britain, France, Germany — a winter package of air defense, the grid, and American LNG, and a U.S. push to revive the trilateral table with Moscow. Witkoff called it encouraging. Kushner wants all three sides in one room. Nobody signed a pause. Nobody named the next city. Zelenskyy: Europe, the United States, “or perhaps Ukraine again.”
The 72-hour mute on strikes against the two capitals still runs through Monday. The rest of the map did not get the holiday. Overnight Ryazan was already on Sunday’s board. Diplomats on a train do not turn off drones.
What is not a deal
Territory stays a leaders problem. A prosperity plan is a slide deck until there is a ceasefire to hang it on. Plan A is talks. Plan B, Zelenskyy said Sunday, is the 67 Ukrainian firms already building the kit to kill jet drones. The envoys had never sat in Kyiv before this trip. They have been to Moscow eight times. That imbalance is the story as much as the communiqué.
What this means for you
If you wanted a breakthrough by Labor Day, you got a railway photo. If you trade energy, LNG for a Ukrainian winter is a bid, not a Tuesday print. If you only read one sentence, read this: they left without a date.
Bottom line: Peace Express out. Next meeting unpicked. The war did not take Monday off.
