Onimusha was supposed to be a museum piece. Capcom put a new one on the store today.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword launches September 4, 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Windows / Steam / Epic, and Nintendo Switch 2. One player. Swordplay. Early Edo-period Kyoto twisted by something they are calling Malice. PEGI 18, which is the ratingโs way of saying the Genma are not a Saturday-morning cartoon.
Why it exists in 2026
The last new Onimusha was about twenty years ago. The genre around it grew fangs. Everything with a stamina bar gets called a soulslike now. Capcomโs pitch is older than that word: Issen โ nail the timing, the screen agrees with you.
If you played the demo, keep the save. Capcom says that file gets a bonus in the full game. They also yanked the date forward to today, which is how you know a marketing calendar lost to a build that was actually ready. Digital early-purchase windows run into late September depending on the store.
Switch 2 people who pre-ordered the old date already got the fun Nintendo surprise: that eShop pre-order was cancelled and you had to place it again. Read the email before you double-buy.
What it is not
It is not Marvelโs Wolverine. That is September 15, PS5 only, Insomniac, claws, the thing State of Play just put on a two-week clock.
It is not Final Fantasy VII Revelation. That is April 8, 2027, on everything.
Today is a Capcom night. One protagonist. One city. A combat system that will live or die on whether โmaster your timingโ is a skill or a loading-screen quote.
