The 8:04 future was a draft. 4 p.m. is the grade. Wednesday’s 51,462 is yesterday.
MarketWatch, Rob Curran, Thursday 4:12 p.m. ET: Dow Jones 51,778.04, up 316.14, +0.61%. S&P 500 7,637.76, up 85.95, +1.14%. Nasdaq Composite 26,418.30, up 439.87, +1.69%. Morning we had Dow futures 52,371 at 8:04. Wednesday’s cash close remains 51,461.90. This is the first green close after a three-day losing streak, MarketWatch live coverage / Dow Jones Market Data. The S&P and Nasdaq posted their largest daily gain since Aug. 4, that tape said. Information technology, the S&P’s biggest sector, jumped 2.2%.
MarketWatch: comfort with Chair Kevin Warsh’s strategy and hopes for a return of Saudi oil tamed inflation concerns and crude. Oil futures declined 52 cents to $101.91 a barrel — treat that as WTI unless a desk labels Brent. Anadolu, 2015 GMT: Brent futures $104.13, −1.6%. That is not Tuesday’s $108.75 Brent settle and not this morning’s Yahoo $98.88. 2-year yield 4.688% (−0.038). 10-year 4.946% (−0.057) from a 19-year high. 30-year 5.296% (−0.050). Anadolu’s 10-year ~4.93% is a rounded tape; we are using Curran’s 4.946%.
Funds are already 3.75–4%, 12–0. That hike already ran. A green Thursday is not a cut. Warsh’s “nothing for you” and Truth Social “One percent, or less” are still not a vote. Reuters, Stephen Culp printed a Dow a dollar off this close; we are staying with MarketWatch 51,778.04.
