U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland, as reported by The MoCo Show, Monday 6:20 p.m. ET: Evester Edd, 64, of Silver Spring, was sentenced to two years of supervised probation, including three months of home confinement with electronic monitoring, after pleading guilty to theft of government property. He was ordered to pay $20,758.50 in restitution and perform 250 hours of community service. Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph Baldwin prosecuted. That is the paper. A plea is a conviction on that count. It is not 92 months.
Same USAO-MD account: Edd was a senior human resources employee at the Peace Corps, working from headquarters in Washington or approved telework. Prosecutors: between September and November 2024, he falsely reported hours in the Peace Corps time-and-attendance system when he was not working for the agency. Investigators said that during many of those hours he was instead working remotely as a contractor for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. An analysis of his NRC-issued laptop found that on nearly a daily basis he logged into the NRC network from his residence during hours he reported working for the Peace Corps. Investigators also found nine days when he accessed the NRC network from his workspace inside Peace Corps headquarters during the Peace Corps workday. Prosecutors: the false entries meant the Peace Corps paid him for hours he did not work. He retired from federal service in December 2024 while the investigation was pending. Peace Corps OIG led, with FHFA-OIG, NRC OIG, and other partners. Morning’s unused Elshazly already ran. We will not reprint 92 months as first-day news.
