Labor Day in Brooklyn has a route.
The 59th West Indian American Day Parade steps at 11 a.m. on Eastern Parkway, Utica Avenue west to Grand Army Plaza, through Crown Heights into Prospect Heights. Costumes, floats, steel pan, soca, calypso, reggae, jerk, roti, doubles. Free from the curb. West Indian American Day Carnival Association has run this for generations. It is one of the largest gatherings the city puts on a street.
MTA: 2, 3, and 4 trains skip Eastern Parkway–Brooklyn Museum both ways 4:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Use Grand Army Plaza or Franklin Avenue–Medgar Evers College. Holiday schedule, fewer trains. Do not drive into the parkway. Closures fan across Crown Heights and Prospect Heights — Flatbush, Bedford, Nostrand, Washington, and the list the city updates by the hour.
The old Fifth Avenue labor parade is not today. NYC Central Labor Council moved its 2026 march to a Tuesday night rally starting on Liberty Street. If you showed up on Fifth expecting unions, you have the wrong year. Today is Carnival.
Arrive 9–10 a.m. if you want a spot. Water, shoes, cash, OMNY. City: mobile trauma units and crisis teams in the crowd. 911 for an emergency. Text NOTIFYNYC to 692-692.
What this means for you
If you are going, the subway is the plan. If you live on the parkway, this morning was already loud. If you wanted a labor march, that is tomorrow night, Lower Manhattan. If you only needed one sentence: the parkway is closed, the music is not.
Bottom line: 11 a.m., Utica to the Plaza. Leave the car. The holiday in Brooklyn is Carnival.
