The map kept walking. The wind number ticked up one bin inside the same label.
Tropical Storm Lowell, Advisory 57, 11 p.m. HST Wednesday: 65 mph, 655 miles northwest of Lihue, moving west at 13 mph. Pressure 993 mb. Tropical-storm-force winds 195 miles. No coastal watches or warnings. Land hazards: none. Next complete advisory: 5 a.m. HST.
Wednesday morning this was 65 and 390. Midday 60 and 460. Evening Daily Post: 60 and 545. Overnight the satellite wind data put it back at 65 and 655, heading west. NHC: gradual weakening over the next day, but it stays a tropical storm for several days. A hurricane is still 74. This is not that.
Kauai’s 33,000 dark accounts are not in this advisory. They are a co-op fact. Do not read 655 miles as lights.
What this means for you
If you are watching from the mainland, the storm is a marine speck. If you are on Kauai, the recovery is still poles and laterals. If you needed a category change, you did not get one.
Bottom line: 65 mph. 655 miles west. Same label. Different island problem.
